Autumn Flower Show 2023

to be held in the CE PRIMARY SCHOOL at 2.30 p.m. on

SATURDAY 16th SEPTEMBER

Members with smaller gardens have a restricted choice of vegetables.  Members are asked to use their discretion and, if able, to enter Class 1 not to enter Class 2.

VEGETABLES – see staging page.  Collections: Each vegetable will be awarded points out of 10 for presentation, uniformity, size, shape and colour.

  1. A Collection of Vegetables, 5 distinct kinds.  See staging page for quantity for each kind required
  2. A Collection of Vegetables, 4 distinct kinds. One of each kind only.   Parsley allowed for garnish
  3. 5 Carrots
  4. 5 Potatoes, one variety
  5. 5 Runner Beans
  6. 3 Leeks (tops to be cut to a point and tied)
  7. 5 Onions
  8. 3 Beetroot
  9. 3 Courgettes (not more than 15cm/6″ long)
  10. 5 Tomatoes, outdoor – 1 variety
  11. 5 Tomatoes, grown under glass – 1 variety
  12. 5 Tomatoes, small fruited variety, max. diameter 3.8cm/1½”
  13. 10 Shallots
  14. Any other Vegetable – maximum of 2 entries per exhibitor allowed
  15. A herb plant growing in a pot maximum size 6”/15 cm diameter
  16. The Ugliest Vegetable
  17. Potatoes grown in a Bucket – not more than 3 gallons/13.8 litres.  Collect Potatoes at the Spring Show   A)   Adults       B)  Young Persons – (16 years and under)

Tops of root vegetables should be trimmed and tied, preferably with raffia, otherwise with natural coloured string.

18. 4 Cooking Apples – one variety

19. 4 Dessert Apples – one variety

20. Plate any other outdoor fruit – maximum of 2 entries per exhibitor allowed

21. Plate any other fruit grown under glass – maximum of 2 entries per exhibitor allowed

FLOWERS  

22. 3 blooms of any Dahlia, one or more varieties

23. 3 blooms of Chrysanthemums, one or more varieties

24. 3 stems of Asters or Michaelmas Daisies, one or more varieties 

25. 1 Rose with own foliage – no buds

26. Mixed flowers from the garden in Own Vase – To be judged on quality and number of blooms

27. One stem of flowering shrub in  Own Jam Jar – NOT Fuchsia

28. 3 stems of any other Autumn Garden Flower, one or more varieties.  In Own Vase not more than 23cm/9” diameter

29. 1 stem of Fuchsia – any variety – Own Jam Jar

30. 3 Hydrangea heads (any variety or varieties)

FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS (Materials need not be grown by the Exhibitor)

31. Hedgerow Harvest (may include flowers, foliage, berries and fruits), space allowed 45cm x 45cm x 45cm

32. A Nursery Rhyme, space allowed 45cm x 45cm x open height

COOKERY (special covers are provided for all classes except Classes 34 and 38)

33. 4 bread rolls in Own Bread Basket – own recipe to be displayed

34. A Jar of Jelly – See staging page for information on lids 

35. Earl Grey Teabread – recipe provided on recipe page

36. 4 Apple crumble slices – recipe provided on recipe page

37. 4 Chocolate fridge cake slices – own recipe to be displayed

38.  CHILDREN’S COOKERY CLASS – 4 Shining Star biscuits – use any biscuit recipe.  Before baking, make a hole in the centre of the biscuit just large enough to take a boiled sweet.  Put a boiled sweet into the hole and bake the biscuits as shown in the biscuit recipe.  

Please cover entries with cling film.  Child’s own work with minimal adult help.   Entries from children at other schools are welcome.   To be judged in school year age groups.   Please mark your entries clearly with your name, class and age
